Taking Care of Christmas
For many trying to make this a magical time, the reality actually means stress; increasing debt; no family to spend time with and temporary accommodation.
Christmas can be stressful, depressing and lonely
At WILD we try to ensure the families we are working with feel supported throughout the year but even more so in the run up to the festive season. We always stress the importance of being together rather than the money you have to spend to create the ‘perfect day’
We all know children can get overwhelmed by the run up to and the day itself and after buying the latest amazing present all they want to do is play in the box for the day rather than with the gift!
Project workers have been helping families make presents/keepsakes for their children, cooking cakes & cookies together and accessing support from the local services like the food banks, citizens advice whilst also ensuring the families are accessing funds for heating if they are available.
Behind the frontline the team at WILD have been speaking to our friends & supporters and have received gifts from Sainsburys & Frugi. WILD is always grateful for the support we receive as we can pass this directly on to the people who actually benefit from it.
So thank you for your generosity!
A little help goes a long way with small charities supporting our local communities, we as workers are also making up boxes for the local foodbank
Please spare a thought this Christmas for those less fortunate
Here are 5 ways you can help:
Put something into the Foodbank box at your local supermarket
Go through your wardrobe and give old coats to the homeless shelter & blankets to the animal shelters
Visit a neighbour & check they are okay as it gets colder
Give a homeless person some hot food or hot drink
Volunteer your time - befriending, hospital services, shelters, foodbanks & ‘soup kitchens’ are always in need of people throughout the year.
Most of all take care of yourselves over the festive period, have fun, keep safe and spend time with people
We wish you a healthy, happy & safe Christmas!
