This summer we were very sorry to say goodbye to one of our longest-serving members of staff, who is moving on to more relaxing pastures. Jane Grocutt has been our Lead Children's Worker in Falmouth for 23 years, and is leaving to have a bit more time with her family and her garden.
Jane has been a true WILD Champion. She has looked after more than 400 children in her years with WILD, helping all of them learn and grow, and I know she has often shed a tear when they move on to 'big nursery'. The first WILD children Jane looked after will be in their twenties, with some now having children of their own.
Jane has helped our WILD babies have some great times; including our visit from the Duchess of Cornwall in 2010, our WILD Choir performing in Newquay, pantomimes at Hall for Cornwall, outdoor cooking at BF Adventure, and babies ice-skating at Eden. Jane has done more than her share of song-times and snack-times. and changed more than enough nappies for one lifetime!
Jane told us that only recently a tall young man approached her and asked if she remembered him. Jane didn't know who he was, until he explained that he remembered her from WILD, when he attended 16 years ago! He told her proudly about his family and his job, and how well his life is going. Jane will be remembered by many children, many grateful mums, and all her colleagues, as our calmest, kindest, most caring Children's Worker.
"We have all learned from Jane, and thank her for her dedication and service."
