Dads Make Stories Magic – a national campaign with Book Trust
WILD dads featured in a series of stories from dads across the UK whose lives have been transformed by reading with their children more regularly.
"I was never really read to when I was younger...I try to (read) every night. You can look at your child and see their mind ticking when you're reading these stories. I enjoy it. I say give it a go."
WILD young dads took part in a national campaign to get dads to read with their children more regularly, featuring alongside the likes of Jo Wicks and David Walliams.
The Dads make stories magic campaign was launched after research found that only one in three children are read a story every day by their dads. The research also showed that dads were twice as likely as mums to say they lack confidence in their own reading ability and in choosing books their children would like to read.
Only 36% of dads said they were read to when they were children. Less than half of dads grew up with positive ideas about reading with many saying they did not know the benefits of reading aloud to their children.
WILD encourages parents to read to their children and uses books and resources from Book Trust to inspire families – including at its weekly group for dads.
