Pelvic Health Video Series

WILD parents worked with Health Innovation South-West and researchers at the University of Exeter to develop three videos about pelvic health muscle exercises.

"I heard I should be doing (the exercises) but I'm not quite sure how to do them."

Weeing without meaning to (also known as urinary incontinence) is very common after giving birth and can have a big impact on new parents. It can stop them from leaving the house, they might feel embarrassed, and they may not know where to turn for help. For young parents, it can feel extra confusing and upsetting as bladder problems are normally linked with older people.

It’s important that young parents know they are not alone (one in three people experience leaky wee after giving birth!) ...

... and that leaky wee can be prevented with small exercises during and after pregnancy.

WILD parents worked with Health Innovation South-West and researchers at the University of Exeter to develop three videos about pelvic health muscle exercises.

Young parents often tell us that public health messages don't feel relevant to them, so this was a great opportunity for them to learn something, but also to share their thoughts and ideas so that the videos were relatable to other young parents.

WILD parents helped to design the video content so that it was relevant and easy to understand for young parents. They also featured in the videos!

The series of videos answered common questions like, what even is my pelvic floor? They also explained why pelvic muscle exercises are important and how to find and squeeze them to make them stronger.

This is a great example of working with young people to design services that work for and not against them.”

WILD was grateful to work with the team to empower young parents and give them the tools and confidence to lead healthy, leak-free lives.
