I am two years old and will be three very soon. I am on something called the neurodevelopmental pathway. I’m not talking yet, and sometimes physical contact is too much for me.
I like to play on my own, usually with puzzles or building blocks. I enjoy walking around the room, and sometimes I like to run as well. Having lots of space makes me happy.
Every week at WILD, they sing hello to everyone. I particularly like it when they sing my name, even when I’m playing away from them. They have something called a song bag, where they sing in a fancy tune, asking us what’s inside. I don’t usually pick something myself; they always ask me, but I walk away. My Mummy will choose for me when I do this.
My Mummy picks my favourite songs, and I can hear the group singing them. I enjoy listening to this, and sometimes I stop what I’m playing with to watch them sing.
One week at WILD, I did choose from the song bag. I picked the bus. Everyone in the room then sang "The Wheels on the Bus." They had big smiles on their faces and were doing all the actions!
I stopped moving and stood just outside of the circle because I wanted to be close that day. I smiled as they sang my favourite song, which I chose myself! I looked at the people as they sang, and I liked seeing their eyes; they seemed brighter when they were singing.
The next week at WILD, we met at a beautiful garden that had a bandstand and a water fountain! We had our picnic in the bandstand. There were so many people, but I enjoyed being with everyone and having a safe space to wander around.
Everyone sang songs again, and I stopped running to just watch. I had a huge smile on my face as I took in my surroundings—looking at the patterns on the bandstand cover, feeling the gentle breeze in my hair, smelling the freshly cut grass, tasting the banana provided by WILD (my favourite), and hearing the joyous singing from all the parents and workers. I was mesmerised! My friends were dancing and bouncing while I stood still, absorbing all of this magic.
